JURISDICTION

Residents in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Santa Catarina or Rio Grande do Sul must submit their visa application to the Consulate General of India in São Paulo (www.cgisaopaulo.in).
The consular section of the Embassy of India in Brasilia has jurisdiction over the other states of Brazil.

DIPLOMATIC AND OFFICIAL PASSPORTS

Holders of diplomatic or official passports of the Federative Republic of Brazil are exempt from visas for travel of up to 90 days. International immunization certificate against yellow fever remains a mandatory requirement. To check the visa waiver agreement, click here .

Foreigners traveling to India, with any category of visa, are prohibited from carrying satellite phones.

Electronic Visa (e-Visa)

The Government of India has offered the Eletronic Visa (e-Visa) facility to citizens of friendly nations such as Brazil. The e-Visa is available in 5 sub-categories: e-Tourist, e-Business, e-Medical visa, e-Medical Attendant and e-Conference visa.

The following activities will be permitted under the Electronic Visa (e-Visa):

e-Tourist Visa: Recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends or relatives, and/or attending a short term yoga programme. The validity of e-Tourist Visa is up to 1 year after arrival in India, with double entries and visits not longer than 90 days of continuous stay per entry/visit into Indian territory.

Nationals of the USA, UK, Canda and Japan continuous stay during each visit shall not exceed the 180 days limit. In case of exceeding the time-frame, prior registration with FRRO/FRO is required.

e-Business Visa: All activities permitted under normal Business Visa such as establishing and industrial/business venture, purchasing/selling industrial products or commercial ones, attending technical meetings and projects, business support, to recruit manpower, for partners or Directors of Companies, participate in business fairs, exhibitions, trade fairs, in-house training of multinational companies/corporate houses.
Validity of e-Business Visa is up to 1 year with multiple entries and visits of up to 180 consecutive days. In cases of continuous stay exceeding the 180 days limit, a registration with FRRO/FRO offices is required before the end of two weeks after the 180 days period.
e-Medical Visa (patient) / e-Medical Attendant Visa (Escort) Medical treatment, including treatment under Indian systems of medicine. Validity of e-Medical Visa is up to 60 days with triple entry. Extension of stay may be granted on case-to-case basis on merits of each case by FRRO/FRO concerned and prior approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
e-Conference Visa: Conferences, seminars and/or workshops. E-Conference visa validity is 30 days after arrival in India. Extensions of 30 days may be granted on case to case basis on merits of each case by FRRO/ FRO concerned and prior approval of the Foreigners Division at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Grant of e-Visa will be subject to the following conditions:-

e-Visa will be non-extendable and non-convertible except in the case of e-Medical Visa. Holders of e-visas may convert their visas to e-Medical visa in case of sickness or medical necessity.

E-Visa will be provided at 5 major Indian Ports i.e. Mumbai, Cochin, Goa, Chennai and Mangalore.

‘Visa-on-Arrival’ Scheme applicable to Japanese nationals

Duration of stay in India on ‘Visa-on-Arrival’ for Japanese nationals is 60 days.
Japanese nationals availing ‘Visa-on-Arrival’ will be permitted double entry.

(2) Grant of e-Visa will be subject to the following conditions:-

e-Visa will be non-extendable except in the case of e-Medical Visa as mentioned in sub-para (3) above.
e-Visa will be non-convertible to any other types of visa except in the following cases:

To ‘X’ (Entry) Visa if a foreigner who has come to India on an e-visa marries an Indian national during the validity of his/her e-Visa. This will be subject to submission of a copy of the registered Marriage Certificate and reports about their marital status which will, inter-alia, include his/her antecedents, confirmation about their living together and security clearance.
To Medical (MED) Visa if a foreigner falls ill after his/her entry into India rendering him/her unfit to travel and who requires specialized medical treatment provided he/she is eligible for the grant of Medical Visa and a medical certificate is obtained from a government / ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) / NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers / MCI (Medical Council of India)/ CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) recognized hospital.
To ‘X’ (Entry) Visa in the case of a Person of Indian Origin who is otherwise entitled for ‘X’ (Entry) Visa.

(3) E-Visa will be provided at 5 major Indian Ports i.e. Mumbai, Cochin, Goa, Chennai and Mangalore.

‘Visa-on-Arrival’ Scheme applicable to Japanese nationals

Duration of stay in India on ‘Visa-on-Arrival’ for Japanese nationals is 60 days.

Japanese nationals availing ‘Visa-on-Arrival’ will be permitted double entry.

Entry airports

Citizens wishing to enter India with the Electronic Tourist Visa must necessarily arrive on one of the 24 airports or 5 seaports listed below:

Airports: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Trivandrum, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, Goa, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Gaya, Jaipur, Lucknow, Trichy, Varanasi, Calicut, Mangalore, Pune, Nagpur, Coimbatore, Bagdogra, guwahati, Chandigarh, Madurai, Bhubaneswar and Port Blair.

Seaports: Mangalore, Cochin, Mumbai, Goa, Chennai.

Eligibility criteria

Available only for international travelers whose only motivations are tourism, recreation, informal visits to friends or family members, medical treatment of short duration or informal business meetings.
The passport must be valid for at least six months.
Travelers must have a return ticket or a ticket to the next destinations in their journey, besides sufficient cash resources to ensure their stay in India.
Visitors holding a passport from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan or persons of Pakistani origin must apply for the regular tourist visa at a consulate or embassy of India.
This facility is not available to holders of official or diplomatic passports.

How to apply

Apply in advance: applicants must apply for the Electronic Visa at least 4 days before the date of arrival in India. Example: if you are applying for a visa on September 1st, you can choose the arrival date between September 5th and October 4th.

Upload documents and photo: During the online application process, the applicant must upload a recent frontal photo of the face, on a white background; besides the passport pages featuring the photo and the personal data (name , date of birth, nationality etc.). The request is subject to rejection if the passport and photograph entered are not readable and according to specifications.

Pay the fee: the applicant must pay the fee per passenger in addition to debit / credit cards charges. The fee must be paid with a minimum of four (4) days prior to your arrival in India. Once paid, the fee will not be refunded.

Printing: the applicant must print out and carry the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) sent by e-mail. This paper should be delivered to the competent authorities in the Indian airport of arrival. The applicant’s biometric information will be collected by the Immigration Service on their arrival in India.

Technical information

The site is best viewed in Mozilla Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer (version 9.0 or higher) browsers.
The applicant must have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7.0 or higher installed on their computer in order to download and print the completed application form.
The photograph must be in JPEG format, size between 10 Kb and 1 MB. The height and width of the photo should be the same. There should be no shadows on the face or background of the photograph.

Applicants must come in person to the consular section of the Indian Embassy in Brasilia, where they can pay the fees with cash. The amount brought to the Embassy must be exact. The ICWF amount must be brought separately.

A Student visa is granted to a foreigner:

(i) whose sole objective is to pursue on-campus, full time (structured) courses (including English and other language courses and vocational education) at educational institutions (Central/ State Government

Educational Institutions & Private Educational Institutions) duly recognized by statutory regulatory body and have acquired statutory authorization to conduct the course(s) complying with GST regulations.

(ii) who holds a valid passport, and a re-entry permit if that is required under the law of the country of nationality of the applicant;

(iii) who is not a persona-non-grata to the Government of India;

(v) who produces proof of admission to a full time course in a recognized educational institution in India;

(vi) who produces a letter of approval or a " No Objection Certificate" from the Ministry of Health, in case of admission in a medical or para-medical course;

(vii) who is a person of assured financial standing (A letter of support from the parent/guardian accompanied by a bank guarantee/ certificate may be accepted for this purpose);

(viii) who produces, to the satisfaction of the Embassy, evidence of transfer of adequate funds for at least 4 months sustenance in India, or produces travelers cheques for a similar amount;

(2) Clearance of the Ministry of Home Affairs for issue of Protected Area Permit (PAP)/ Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is required if the place of study falls within the Protected/ Restricted Area.

(i) A maximum of four entries per academic year will be allowed.

(ii) A foreign student will be permitted to change his/ her course for a maximum of three times during the currency of a Student Visa. In case of any further change in the course, the foreign national will have to obtain a fresh Student Visa from the Indian Mission/ Post abroad.

(iii) There will be no restriction with reference to the number of courses a student wants to avail of in one institution or multiple institutions, provided the institutions are recognized.

(iv) In case a foreign student wants to change a course midway and join another course, the period of validity of visa will be counted from the initial date of issue of visa."

Letter addressed to the Indian Embassy from the concerned company/ educational institution/ non-governmental organization in India sponsoring the applicant for the internship program. It must clearly indicate the period of the internship and the salary, if applicable. The original letter must be on the company, educational institution or NGO’s letterhead, signed and stamped.

In case of internship in a company, the applicant should receive a minimum remuneration of Rs. 7.8 lakh per year

Observe:

(1) The period of visa is restricted to the duration of the internship programme or one year, whichever is less.

(2) The intern visa will be granted immediately after completion of graduation/ post graduation but the gap between the completion of graduation/ post graduation and the commencement of the internship should not be more than two years.

(3) Visa should be granted only on the basis of a letter from the Indian company/ educational institution/ NGO concerned sponsoring the foreign national for the internship programme and clearly indicating the period of internship.

(4) In case the internship is in a Company, the foreign national being sponsored for internship should draw a minimum remuneration of Rs. 7.80 lakhs per annum. There will be no minimum salary limit in the case of internship in Educational institutions and NGOs.

(5) Intern visa will not be issued for internship in certain vital sector like Defence, Telecom, Space Technologies, Construction/ strategic Infrastructure projects, Mining, Civil Aviation, Petroleum & Natural Gas exploration, Private security agencies, Human Rights, Nuclear Energy, Environmental issues and Dams. This list will be reviewed every two years.

(6) Grant of Intern Visa to foreigners intending to pursue internship in NGOs will be subject to prior clearance.

(7) Prior clearance of the Ministry of Home Affairs shall also be obtained if the internship programme involves visits to Protected, Restricted & Cantonment areas,

(8) The foreign national will have to exit the country before the expiry of the visa. An undertaking should be obtained from the company/ organization concerned that they will ensure departure of the foreigner on completion of the internship.

(9) Earnings from internship of the foreign nationals with Indian companies/ Educational Institutions/ NGOs will be subject to the Indian Income Tax Regulations.

(10) Foreign nationals granted visa for doing internship will have to register themselves with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) concerned within 14 days of arrival in India if continuous stay is for more than 180 days.

(11) The foreign national will have to exit the country before the expiry of the visa. An undertaking from the company/organization concerned that they will ensure departure of theforeigner on completion of the internship is required to submit.

(12) the foreign national will not be allowed to take up employment in India immediately after completion of the internship programme. Conversion of the Intern visa into Employment visa or any other types of visa will not be permitted. In case the foreign national receives any offer for employment in India, he/she will have to go back to the country of his/her origin/ domicile and apply for ‘Employment Visa’ at the Indian Mission/

Grant of visa to interns sponsored by AIESEC:

If the applicant is sponsored by AIESEC, original sponsorship letters from AIESEC Brasil and AIESEC India.

(1) Grant of visa to interns sponsored by Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (AIESEC) for social or community work in NGOs and for project based work in companies/ industries will also be governed by guidelines mentioned above.

(2) In case a foreign national is in India on a Student visa and after completion of Graduation/ post-graduation, the foreign national is offered internship on the sponsorship of AIESEC, FRRO/ FRO concerned may convert the Student Visa to Intern Visa subject to fulfillment of the conditions mentioned above.
