Attestation of Documents issued in Brazil

Attestation of Documents Originated in Brazil

Please note that both India and Brazil are member of the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961 that abolished the requirement of legalization of foreign public documents. Apostille is done for personal documents like birth/death/marriage certificates, Affidavits, Power of Attorney, etc. and educational documents like degree, diploma, matriculation and secondary level certificates etc.

Therefore, any document Apostilled in Brazil is acceptable in India as it is, thus making it needless to get the documents attested by the Embassy again.

For Apostilation of documents originated in Brazil, the competent authority is Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil (Itamaraty). For seeking apostilation of document in Brazil, applicants are requested to contact Itamaraty in Brasilia or its designated offices in other regions/states.

Attestation in the Embassy:-

Applicants may apply for attestation of a document issued by local authorities of Brazil such as Certificate of Birth/Death/Marriage etc., Affidavits, Educational Documents/Diplomas may require attestation or authentication by the Embassy before it is presented to authorities in India.

However, please note that in order to obtain Embassy’s attestation / authentication on any such original document, it is mandatory that the document must be attested by the Itamaraty or its branch office.

A document issued by any local authority of Brazil, which is not bearing attestation of the Itamaraty can not be directly accepted for attestation or authenticated by the Embassy.

Applicants may also apply for attestation of photocopy of documents issued by Brazilian authorities for appropriate use in India.

This type of attestation/authentication service may be applied by Post.

Documents required for attestation/authentication service:-

  • Copy of Misc. Consular Service Application Form
  • Copy of the Indian passport/OCI card (first and last page) of the applicant
  • Two copies of the document required to be attested / authenticated (one copy for Embassy and one copy for the applicant)
