Ambassador Ashok Das is a career diplomat. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1987. He has served in India’s diplomatic missions in Portugal, Cambodia, Chicago and has been India’s Assistant High Commissioner in Chittagong, Bangladesh. He has also been India’s Consul General in Vancouver. He has served as Deputy Director General in the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi. He was Ambassador of India to the Republic of Iceland. He was in charge of the Latin America & the Caribbean Division in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi since August, 2015 before being appointed the Ambassador of India to Brazil.
Ambassador Das has studied Portuguese and speaks a number of Indian languages. He possesses an M. Phil. degree from the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.
Ambassador Das is married to Dr. Erika Das. They have two children – a daughter and a son.
